Christmas in Roma and Assisi

We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day in Roma with our friends, Giorgio and Francesca, and their family. La Vigilia, Christmas Eve, was a big feast dinner with family and at midnight presents were brought out for the youngsters. On Natale, Christmas, we went down to the Forum area in the morning and were surprised by the lack of people out as it was a beautiful winter day. Later that night we went back to the Piazza Navona area where there was a carnival atmosphere with a carousel and game booths around the piazza.

After Christmas we drove to Assisi to meet up with some friends from Corrales, NM who were spending the week in nearby Spoleto. We spent two days together touring Assisi, Perugia and Deruta. Assisi was interesting in that it is the town where San Francesco started the presepe, nativity scene, and these were located all around town in churches and other public locations.

We are in Anzio today and tomorrow morning will pick up Valerie’s aunt and uncle at the airport for a quick one week tour with them in Ascoli Piceno and Roma.

I'm glad that you had a great first Christmas in Italy. You were fortunate as you missed the first true winter storm in NM. A record 16.5" of snow was added to 8" that fell the previous day. I never saw so much white stuff in my entire life.
