Foto Friday: Von Steuben

Me and Von Steuben

How many degrees of separation are there between the two of us?

Last Sunday we went into the District to visit a couple museums and enjoy the warming temperatures after all the snow this area has had. In LaFayette Square across from the White House is a statue of General Von Steuben, a Prussian military officer who helped shape the fledging Continental Army into a fighting unit. I do not have a lot of information on my ancesters but I do know that some of them came from Prussia in the late 1800's. (Valerie has all of the Italian genes.)

Von Steuben also served under kings in Prussia named Frederick. Frederico II was an influential Germanic ruler in southern Italy in the 13th Century. Our new house is in southern Italy...

You see, there are multiple connections.
