Cat people

Micia

We have always enjoyed animals and are proud to be “cat people”. We had a dog and two cats for many years in New Mexico before moving to Italy but were never settled in one location long enough there to have our own pets. We relied on neighbors’ pets or the abundance of cats that roam the towns and cities of Italy. If you have visited Rome and love cats you probably know about the cat sanctuary at Torre Argentina, a great place where you can see cats and also help in their care.

We always seemed to attract cats when we lived in Italy; they just knew we had a soft spot for them. I have collected a lot of photos of cats from towns all over the peninsula we would encounter as we strolled the streets. The cats in Italy are also treated to true Italian cuisine as many times we saw plates of pasta or seafood placed out for their enjoyment.

Micia

My sister-in-law had a cat that recently developed a blood clot in her back which caused paralysis in her back legs; she had to be put to sleep. Always a tough decision to make. It will take time before she is ready to get another pet but a neighbor cat is helping to fill the void for all of us. We call her Micia and her owner lives next door but she seems to prefer to spend her days lounging in our front yard. She’ll sun herself in the morning in one spot then move to the shade under a bush in the afternoon. She seems to be deaf but if she sees us many times she’ll stroll over for a treat or just to be petted.

Micia knows that “cat people” live at this address.

I'm a cat person too. Just adore them. We have three cats and a toy poodle. :-)

When we had 2 cats and a small dog the cats still ruled the house.

We are cat people too! It it is very sad for your sister-in-law and we know exactly what she is going through, as the exactly same thing happened to us last month. It was horrendous, as i came home and found him lying in the garden unable to move, I phoned my husband to get home straight away, we took him to the vets and he explained, and we had to make a choice, operation which might not work or put him to sleep, we were both in tears in the vets and at home!

Anne - That is always a hard choice and can be hard to make the decision that is best for our pets.

I was always , always , always a "dog person." But after 2 accidental rescues, ( most likely due to St. Francis) I am, proudly, a 1/2 cat person now. They are wonderful! :)

Sharon - Brava for rescuing some cats on your own.
