Bryan or Bruno

San Bruno

One of the things that they do in language classes in the US is to give you a name from the language you are studying. I remember this from my high school French classes and the same when I took some basic Italian classes in Albuquerque. For example Valerie easily becomes Valeria, but there is no easy fit for Bryan in other languages.

When we first moved to Italy some Italians had difficulty pronouncing my name and at one point someone suggested Bruno - sounded good to me so I would use that occasionally. Once I looked a little more into the name the fit seemed even more appropriate.

There is a San Bruno, who was born in Cologne Germany, he became a theological scholar and traveled to Rome in 1090 as an advisor to the Pope then moved onto southern Italy. Bruno died on October 6, 1101 in Italy and this day is celebrated as his feast day. My ancestors are German and I moved to Italy, though I have had no Papal audience. I was born many years later but my birthday is October 6. So while today is the feast day of San Bruno a few select will also recall this day as my birthday.

Buon compleanno a me!
