Zio Dean

Dean Wilhelm

I am conservative, he is liberal. This always made for interesting conversations for us as he always loved to talk politics; we enjoyed joking with each other during the many times when he would visit us in New Mexico or Italy. When we were together a common topic was always about the food, where were we going to go eat next to enjoy the local cuisine or have a gelato.

Valerie’s uncle Dean passed away Wednesday afternoon with his family and friends near him. We were fortunate to get flights to fly back from Italy last week and had a couple days to see him and share our particular memories.

Dean was special to both of us; he walked Valerie down the aisle when we were married almost 22 years ago. He was a caring man who his nieces and nephews looked up to, many times as a father figure.

Dean worked for Holiday Inn Capitol for almost 25 years and the time we spent there has shown us how much of an impact he had on that hotel and the city of Washington, DC. He treated his employees like family and they have been treating us in like fashion.

Dean we will miss you…

What a lovely photo Bryan! I am so sorry to hear of his passing, but it was great that you were both there.

I NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY WE HAVE TO LOOSE THE NICE PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES SO SOON. GOD BLESS MR. DEAN AND YOU TOO FOR GETTING TO HIS SIDE FROM SO FAR AWAY. I WAS TOO LATE FOR BOTH MY PARENTS, WE DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FLY HOME THEN.
HEAVEN HAS GOT ANOTHER ANGEL AND HE WILL WATCH OVER YOU; I BELIEVE THAT. GLEN & TINA (BLUEBERRY GROWERS, KENTUCKY)

It is hard to loose the special people. But it passes. Enjoy Italy and welcome the strengthening dollar.

Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts here and in our email while we were in the US.

I worked for Dean for almost two years, and left the Holiday Inn Capitol to go to seminary. I am a conservative Catholic, and voted for Pres. Bush, so Dean and I would have lots to talk about. When I was getting ready to leave, hewould tell me stories of his experience at sem as well. I will miss him. He was a good manager, and a great human being.
